utilization of whole cottonseed in fattening male calves
نویسندگان
چکیده
digestibility coefficient of whole cottonseed was determined by in vivo method and total collection feces. the whole cottonseed degradability was determined by nylon bag method. a number of 12 holstein bulls were used in a complete randomized design. the rations contained zero (control), seven, 14 and 21 percentages of whole cottonseed. during the experimental period, daily gain, dry matter intake, feed conversion ratio and the carcass characteristics of bulls were measured. the whole cottonseed digestibility and degradability (in passage rate of five percent) was 69.4(i6) and 42.1 percent respectively. the effect of whole cottonseed on the dry matter intake, live body weight, daily gain and the weight of carcass (including internal fat), heart, lung, liver and kidneys were not significant (p> o.o5). the effect of rations on feed conversion ratio and internal fat weight was significant (p< o.o5). the results show that using up to 21 percent of whole cottonseed in male calves rations is possible with no adverse effect.

A metabolic trial was conducted at Buffalo Research Institute, Pattoki, in which 25 male buffalo calves were fed the diets having total mixed ration (100%TMR) (Tc), 70%TMR with 30% silage1 (T1), 70% TMR plus 30% silage2 (T2), 70%TMR with 30% silage3 (T3), and70% TMR plus 30% silage4 (T4). The data thus obtained was statistically analyzed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique. Amo...
متن کاملUtilization of Whole Cottonseed and Hay in Beef Cow Diets
Whole cottonseed (WCS) have become a very popular by-product feed for dairy cattle and for wintering beef cows in the Southern USA. The product is locally available to many producers across the region, and in most years WCS are competitively priced with other feedstuffs. Over time, ruminant nutritionists have recommended that WCS should be fed at about 0.5% of average body weight (BW), or about...

this study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding different levels of whole cottonseed (0, 5, 10 and 15 % wsc) on dry matter intake (dmi), live weight gain and feed conversion ratio (fcr), carcass efficiency and small intestinal morphology of arabi finishing lambs. thirty-six arabi male lambs (29.8±1.6 kg) were allocated to 4 groups according to a completely randomized design. the di...

متن کاملFeeding Whole Cottonseed in the 21 Century
No other feed ingredient provides the combination of effective fiber, energy, and protein like whole cottonseed (WCS). These characteristics make WCS an attractive ingredient for including in rations fed to lactating dairy cows that require high concentrations of energy and adequate effective fiber. But like most ingredients, the composition of WCS has changed. The 2002 cotton crop was negative...
